Apotheca is a pop-up that is aimed to educate the public about the crisis of the depletion of the world’s largest medicine cabinet: the Amazon rainforest. Plants that are pertinent to the world of medicine belong to this rapidly dying biome, three of which will be discussed in the exhibit.
One can learn about modern medicinal uses of the plants as well as their use in traditional remedies by Amazonian indigenous groups. Only 1% of all plants in the rainforest have been screened for pharmaceutical properties. This resource his been largely untapped, and will be lost if deforestation persists. Our planet and people will die without it.
